Cool Inc Tattoo Expo [Review]

An interview with Cortina Whiplash

Who’s Cortina Whiplash, the people behind the music?

We have Loandi on lead vocals and bass guitar, she is a multi-talented wonder. On drums we Auriel, the time keeper and also manager of Cortina, then we have Tessa the guitarist and general smooth talker.

For someone who doesn’t know your music, what does it sound like?

It sounds like what I’d imagine would be playing that moment when you bite into an ice lolly on an excruciatingly hot day.

You’ve played with quite a few big names in the SA music scene. Who’s your favourite local artist and who inspires you?

Quite a few big names have played with us yes. We’re inspired by artists like The Brother Moves On who operate as a collective and have performed all over the world. Their music is a unique blend of what it is to be south african these days.

How many and which instruments do you play?

We all play the triangle as a given, one of us also knows how to play the opening sequence to “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion on a recorder. On top of that we all play guitar and bass, only Auriel can play drums though.

You’ll be at the COOL INC TATTOO EXPO, what can you tell us about the event and what time is your set?

We are performing on Sat night the Nov 7. There will be tattoo vendors, music and suspension shows.

What can we look forward to with your set?

Expect the unexpected we always say, or rather don’t expect anything that way we all win.

Do you have any tattoos?

Yup, we all have tattoos.

Where can we follow you online?

If not at the expo, where can we find you performing?

We’re off to perform in Angola this weekend! And then we’ll be back in Pretoria at Red Right Hand on the 16th October!
