A look back at Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells
It’s 2015, but there is still a place where tattoos and leather jackets meets vintage cars and burlesque bombshells. Outside Cape Town, on the Ostrich Ranch, the Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells put on an annual Rockabilly festival that would even blow the minds of people who grew up in the 50s. Think polkadots, victory rolls under bandannas, Cadillacs and a heavy dose of early rock ‘n roll music.
On the 14th of November it was time again to take out the red lipstick, pin-up dress and show off those tattoos, as The Dusty Rebels And The Bombshells 2015 took to the ranch again. This year was even better than the previous years, with the organisers adding the first ever Pin-Up Pageant to the festival’s line-up, as well as a fashion show and an impressive funfair area.
This rockabilly festival comes complete with stalls where you can get your hair and makeup done, 50s style, by popular brands such as MAC and SCAR. And if you’re more of a Plain Jane, you can just sit back and relax while watching some burlesque shows or listen to rockabilly music.
The hot rods and dirt track was a personal favourite, as well as the lovely burlesque ladies doing their thing in between the bands. It’s great to see that the festival is growing every year and definitely a highlight on Capetonians’ calendars. If you haven’t been, I suggest you follow the festival’s online platforms to keep up to date about the next event!
Once again, Maria and Ziggy, a huge success! Congratulations, and DPC is looking forward to 2016.
