A look at the music at Design Indaba
Design IndaBar 2016, presented by Chivas, recently transformed the Artscape’s beautiful Arts Café into a paradise of creative exchange. The area created the perfect environment for musical and theatrical performances across a broad spectrum of genres – so true to what Design Indaba stands for.
This year’s Design IndaBar amplified the popular expo’s main theme: Creativity. Alongside the conference, and a film festival, the music component of the event took the form of a chill and relax area, a music concert featuring Beatenberg and the Kyle Shepherd Trio, and an after-party.
Drink in hand, delegates and design-lovers alike socialised at IndaBar – talking creative concepts and innovative ideas. The weekend showcased some of SA’s hottest local talent including Alice Phoebe Lou, Blanka Mazimela and Valve State, as well as a “secret” international act. While ReVel Productions in association with New Moon Collective and Zip Zap Circus created a magical performance narrative that unfolded over the three entertaining nights of IndaBar.
The talented artists on the line-up produced a full weekend of different genres, from Jazz to heavy electronic, representing Cape Town, and ultimately South Africa’s eclectic spirit. Highlights included the multi-talented Card on Spokes, DJ Mighty and Blanka Mazimela who ended the party off on Saturday.
Design Indaba’s IndaBar offered a place where ideas took shape even beyond the walls of the conference halls. It created a space to loosen up and discuss the day’s inspiration offered by the expert Design Indaba speakers.
“IndaBar is where creative conversations continue, networking happens, connections are made, collaborations are formed and deals are struck.” Says Design Indaba of their successful music event.
