Mieliepop Music Festival is back in 2016! A 3-day camping experience with 50+ live acts on 3 stages at a 1 of a kind venue with food stalls, hot showers and lots of additional outdoor activities. Have your tickets yet?
When you think Mieliepop, think: Great music talent, gorgeous rivers, rolling fields, squeaky clean infrastructure and incredible entertainment. Crystal clear waters, green hills, lilies and magical caves set the scene for our 3 music stages, surrounded by a massive lake and pools to keep you refreshed and energised all day long.
The line-up is incredible! I caught up with Chantal Van T – also on the list – to chat about Mieliepop and everything else.
Thanks for chatting to DPC! Welcome to 2016 – anything exciting happened yet?
Yes very much! I just recently had a show to launch my album, something i’ve been wanting to do for a while, its been a good way of greeting the new year.
So, what’s up for the new year? What’s your plans – touring, a new album maybe, etc.?
This year already has many plans on the brew, including some international ventures. I’ll be embarking on the first tour of the year with my other band Diamond Thug to launch our EP in March around here in SA. But I will also be playing some Van T shows along the way too.
How do you find the SA music scene as a solo artist?
I think being a solo artist in this music scene is an interesting one because you have to pave your own way to some extent regarding what type of shows you’re playing and where you want to be playing. I feel as though the more clearer one becomes with that the more likely you are to find yourself playing the shows you actually want to be playing, although it is enticing to be able to play on such diverse line ups.
Any SA music artsists you still want to collaborate with?
Yes, there are some amazing and inspiring SA artists and many I’m sure i will still come to learn of but first on the mind are the guys from BCUC I watched them over New Years and wow it was a beautiful way of saying goodbye to 2015. I’m really looking forward to watching them again at this festival!!
You will be at Mieliepop this year. First time?
Its going to be my first time at Mieliepop, very excited! For the music as well as for the activities 🙂
What can people expect of your set at the festival – any new stuff, a couple of surprises?
I have some time till then so I’ll definitely be contriving some suprises for then, perhaps a poem or new song or maybe even a party trick.
First 3 things you pack when going to a festival?
Thanks and see you at Mieliepop!
