Liefde by die Dam with Pierre Greeff
A quick chat with Pierre Greeff
Liefde By Die Dam is back! Join in the fun on Sunday 4 August 2019 for another unforgettable day at Emmarentia Dam. Liefde By Die Dam, named after Valiant Swart’s famous hit song with the same name, showcases the best in local music. This is the perfect day out for all ages with a diverse lineup of acts, delicious food traders, a fully stocked bar and non-stop entertainment from Die Heuwels Fantasties, Francois Van Coke, Early B, The Soweto Gospel Choir, Spoegwolf, Coenie Die Villiers, Tarryn Lamb and Radio Raps.
I caught up with Pierre Greef, vocalist of Die Heuwels Fantasties and one of the organisers of the event, to find out more:
How did Liefde by die Dam start out?
Myself and Gert wanted to work together for a long time. I am in the music business and they are in the eventing bar space. It’s a match made in heaven.
So, what goes into organising a festival of this size?
Lots of toilets, fencing, staging, flights, logistics mixed with lots of beer, music and good blerrie times!
How do you manage your time between playing in a band and being one of the organisers?
I have always been in a managerial role in Die Heuwels Fantasties as well, and have been lucky the last few years to have the help of my friend and colleague Jana de Beer on the booking side of our band and the festival. This frees up some time to do what you need to do. That being said, each of these events have amazing teams in Johannesburg and Cape Town and we couldn’t do it alone.
Anything new this year that festivalgoers can look forward to?
The addition of South Africa’s Grammy darlings Soweto Gospel Choir will be a showstopper for sure! We are also moving to a slightly bigger site in Emmarentia with a better view of the dam behind the stage. Plus, some surprises I just cant give away now, you are going to have to be there!
The lineup looks amazing. Which artists are you personally looking forward to see this year?
Soweto Gospel Choir and Early B! Love ’em to bits.
Liefde Wen will be doing a blanket collection after the concert. Tell us more about this?
We will be donating all blankets to Liefde Wen, so that they can keep the needy warm this winter! We collected more than 1000 blankets at last year`s event and we hope all of our 2019 attendees will get behind this worthwhile cause. We are aiming to collect 2000 blankets this year.
Amazing! And, Is the concert open to all ages?
Of course, bring all your friends and fam! Under threes get in for free!
Finally, where can people get more info?
