Punk Acoustics With The Shabs [WIN – CLOSED]
Punk Acoustics 2019
Park Acoustics proudly presents their inaugural annual ‘Punk Acoustics’ edition on the 5th of May 2019! This time they will be featuring some of the best local acts in the alternative and punk genre, including The Shabs, The Sublime Tribute Show, Fuzigish and more!
I caught up with The Shabs to find out more about their new album and the upcoming Park Acoustics event:
Congrats on your new album ‘Can You Hear Us At The Back’! First, how long did you guys work on this one and how does it feel to finally have the completed project out there?
Thank you so much. The album took about a year from the writing of the songs to the final product. We are so stoked on how it turned out and we’re really proud of it.
Awesome! What is the title about and is there a theme running through this album?
‘Can You Hear us at the Back’ is the title of one of the songs on the album. The song is about how you kinda land up doing the same thing every weekend when you’re in a band. As an album title though, it’s more about being the underdog and trying to stand out in this crazy world. The album has a general theme about life and nostalgia and just rolling with the punches and learning along the way.
You guys have a cool video out for ‘Tom and Phillip’s Song’. It seems like you had a lot of fun creating it. Where was it filmed? And can we expect any more videos from the album?
We filmed the video at Oude Mould village in Cape Town and at two different prop houses, PropArt and Sign Bomb. We had such a good time filming it with our good friend Luke Daniel. It was fun making ourselves look as silly as we used to and just loitering around.
So cool! So, you are doing a tour around the album release in May, but what are you planning for the rest of the year?
We have some dates booked in the UK and then we’re coming home and keeping it fairly chilled. We’ll still be active in SA but over winter we’re going to take some personal time and create some awesome content. We’re looking at heading to Europe again in November and then coming back for an epic summer in SA!
You guys are also playing at Park Acoustics soon. This is a super popular event. What do you guys think makes it is so special?
We love Park Acoustics. We’ve been lucky enough to perform there a bunch over the years with The Shabs and our old band, Captain Stu. The team behind it is the reason it is so special. They are so committed and professional and always a pleasure to work with. There are no corners being cut and the attention to detail is always amazing. There’s a reason it has been going for so long.
You are sharing the stage with some pretty awesome other acts. Besides The Shabs, which acts can we absolutely not miss at this event?
It is the first time the Sublime Tribute Project is performing in Gauteng, so that’s going to be super rad. We’re also massive Fuzigish fans. In general, it’s just an amazing lineup
Of course! Share a song or video to get your fans amped for your set at Park Acoustics.
Finally, which song from the new album will definitely be a crowd favourite?
Probably ‘Can You Hear us at the Back’!
