New Spot: Cowboys & Cooks – Great Steak In The Suburbs

Cowboys & Cooks

Cowboys & Cooks open in Cape Town

Great steakhouses should tick three boxes: a cosy atmosphere, great steak and a wine list that compliments the dishes. Recently, Cowboys & Cooks Steakhouse & Bar opened and, lucky for Cape Town, it ticks all the boxes and even more.

Cowboys & Cooks opened its doors a short while ago in Sunset Beach, Milnerton, just 13 km outside of Cape Town’s CBD. The steakhouse dining experience is owned by the acclaimed and renowned restaurateur Michael Townsend, founder of the Harbour House Group that includes a list of Cape Town’s most well-known restaurants, and run by Stuart Bailey,CEO of The Cowboys & Cooks Group, former owner of the Hussar Grill steak restaurant collection, and former Chief Operating Officer of the Harbour House Group.

With over 44 years of combined experience between them, Michael and Stuart had a very specific vision for Cowboys & Cooks. They wanted to open its doors in a part of the city where families, couples and friends could dine in a beautiful, relaxing environment, away from the hustle and bustle of the CBD, with a quality menu, without having to spend a fortune. And that’s exactly what they did.

The food

The menu is a steak lover’s dream! Steaks come in different cuts, and are between 250 g to 300 g, with the T-bone steak being 500 g. The open-plan kitchen offers a warm atmosphere, one that allows you to almost feel part of the cooking experience.

Further, they offer a range of house specialities, including ostrich loin with a citrus reduction, Karoo Loin chops, as well as pepper encrusted pan-fried fillet and flambe. They also offer a selection of salads, seafood and lighter meals. Every meal can be topped up with a side and a sauce or butter of your choice.

The wine list is added at the back of the food menu. It’s a comprehensive list that includes bubbles, white varieties and red varieties. They also serve a range of cocktails, g&t on tap, and ciders and beers.

The experience

From the cosy interior to the delicious dishes, the 130-seater Cowboys & Cooks is Cape Town’s new gold mine. What makes it special, is that it meets all the requirements you are looking for when going for a full-on wine and dine experience. The venue is spacious, with beautiful interiors, large seating areas and a bar and balcony overlooking Table Mountain. I mean, it REALLY ticks all the boxes.

If you’re part of a big group and picking a venue seems an impossible task, Cowboys & Cooks might just be your best bet! Its cosy and comfortable atmosphere allows it to be the perfect spot for family dinners, after-work drinks, meetings, special celebrations, etc.

Cowboys & Cooks

The plan is to open more Cowboys & Cooks Steakhouses and Bars, one on the corner of Rheede and Kloof Streets in town, and another in Stellenbosch. If Cowboys & Cooks in Sunset Beach is anything to go by, the other two will be a grand addition to the CBD and Stellies.
