St Francis Brewing Company at Capital Craft Beer Festival
Capital Craft Beer Fest 2019
This weekend, on the 15th of June 2019, the 7th annual Capital Craft Beer Festival will take place at the Pretoria National Botanical Gardens. Over the last few years, Capital Craft Beer Festival has established itself as an indispensable part of the Pretoria social calendar not to be missed as 10 000 beer and music lovers congregate in the beautiful natural scenery offered by the Pretoria National Botanical Gardens.
I caught up with St Francis Brewing Company, one of the breweries at the festival this year, to find out more:
Please introduce us to your brand and the awesome team behind it?
St Francis Brewing Company is the quintessential African sunshine brand. It is a brand that strikes a chord with those yearning for a simpler life, one with meaning and sustainability. Our Brewpub in St Francis Bay will always be our first home, but we are proud to be bringing more of our amazing beers to market through no brewing, selling, marketing and distributing through our friends at Signal Hill Products.
So, how did the St Francis Brewing Co originate; Can you share a little bit of history with me?
Our brewery was first established in 2012 after a long surf trip up the West Coast of the United States. The brewpubs were part of California’s surf culture and we wanted to bring those relaxed, care-free vibes back home. We have subsequently outgrown our original Brewpub home and now proudly brew at Signal Hill Products.
Awesome! Please give me a short description of the different craft beers you offer at your brewery.
Our year-round beers are:
– Beach Blonde – Blonde Ale
Our Beach Blonde Ale is light-hearted, natural and refreshing. It is light in calories and alcohol, easy drinking and thirst quenching – perfect on a hot summer’s day.
– Sunshine – White Beer
Our version of an endless summer beer. Brewed with orange peel and coriander seeds, Sunshine is a crisp, creamy and tasty white beer brewed in the Belgian wheat beer style. Served ice cold, to accentuate the beautiful hazy colour, this is the perfect beer to add a bit of spice to a lazy summer’s day.
– Wild Side – Session IPA
Take a walk on the Wildside. An unrestrained celebration of hops. The Wildside, Cape St Francis, is a place of raw beauty that refreshes the soul. The inspiration for our Session IPA, brewed with a background of clean malt flavour and upfront hops character. Taste the elements.
We are also known for some seasonal releases, but for those, you have to come visit in St Francis Bay.
You have quite cool names for each. Who came up with these and I assume they all have a story or meaning?
Correct. Inspired by the sea, sun, surf and the natural beauty synonymous with the Sunshine Coast… Beach Blonde is named after the sun-streaked blondes gracing our beaches in summer. Sunshine is just that, Sunshine in a glass. Wildside is named after the area in Cape St Francis; beautiful yet unpredictable.
So, which is the most popular?
Definitely not for us to decide!
And which do you think is the most underrated?
White beer is not yet as common in South Africa, but we believe it will surprise and delight those who are looking for something different.
With so many beers on tap at the festival, why should we come to try your beers; What makes you different?
We definitely don’t take ourselves too seriously, so just come over and find out for yourselves.
Finally, where can we follow you online?
