36 Crazyfists live in Cape Town

36 Crazyfists rocks Mercury Live

During their performance at the Krank’d Up festival in 2015, frontman Brock Lindow of 36 Crazyfists promised their South African fans that the band will return soon. Not letting them down, the Alaskan metal legends have kept their promise and made their way back to South Africa in April 2018 for two performances in support of their new album, ‘Lanterns’.

Lucky for Cape Town, their performance at Mercury Live fell on a long weekend, and fans could go all out. The line up also included three local bands, Atlantic South
De Wallen and Only Forever.

All three of the local groups made sure that the night kicked off on a high note with powerful, energetic sets. Especially De Wallen impressed, with frontman Jeandré Swanepoel warming the crowd up with his impressive voice (and moves!). The man has come a long way. Only Forever is another name to look out for in the future. These Johannesburg-based rockers know how to hype a crowd up.

36 crazyfists review

Before long, it was time for 36 Crazyfists who took the night to another level with brutal riffs and epic choruses. As they kicked off their set, a few stood in awe, while others were quite literally blown away. These guys have been in the industry for over 20 years, and it shows.

Between classics, they played a good few songs from their latest album “Lanterns” and the crowd quickly lapped it up, joining the mosh pit and signing along.

The group has a raw intensity to them that makes you feel like you can go to war with them. Their energy is infectious and it’s easy to see why they have such a solid fan base around the world.

What a treat to have had the Alaskan metal giants on our soil. Thanks to Turning Tricks Entertainment who did a great job with this event. I look forward to seeing what else they have to offer this year!
