Die Heuwels Fantasties at Liefde By Die Dam [Interview]
Liefde By Die Dam 2018
The amazing Liefde by die Dam concert held annually at Emmarentia Dam in Johannesburg, is coming to Cape Town, at Meerendal, on Saturday November 17th! Get ready for a full day of fun with some of your favourite local artists, including Die Heuwels Fantasties, Francois van Coke, Valiant Swart and Koos Kombuis.
I caught up with Pierre Greeff from Die Heuwels Fantasties to talk about the event:
Congratulations, you have recently become a father. How does this change the way you juggle family and band life?
I think the only thing that has really changed is my sleeping patterns 🙂 and the fact that I am a little bit more excited to return home from tour!
Die Heuwels Fantasties has been around for many years – how has your music evolved over time?
The end of this year will mark exactly 10 years since releasing our first song digitally, and the release of our Pille vir Kersfees USB stick EP! Time flies! I think we have always strived to make records that are different from each other, and that is still the case today… We try and make music that we want to listen to at a particular times. I would say our albums are like photo albums of the times we made them in.
That’s awesome! So, you are also one of the organisers of Liefde by die Dam. How did these concerts come about and how do you choose the line up?
My friend Gert Schoonraad who is a restaurateur and bar event company owner have always wanted to collab on something. This seemed like a natural fit and goodness, here we are about to do our first outdoor in Cape Town and that on the back of a sold-out event in Jozi! We cannot do this without our partners, they are terrific (Jacaranda FM, Bok Radio, Via TV and Huisgenoot)… So, see you on the 17th of November. Who knows what’s next… Bloem? Liefde by die See….
Haha! So, will there be any special collaborations on stage at Liefde by die Dam Meerendal?
Absolutely, watch this space.
Which other major South African music events and or festivals are you impressed with in terms of venue, brand, line-up?
I think what Littlegig have been doing is fantastic, as well as Afropunk seems to set the bar very high! And then Global Citizen I cannot wait for, I am sure it’s going to be next level!
Lastly, to you, what has been the fastest growing trends/developments in the industry and what do you think is next for the SA music industry?
STREAMING, STREAMING, STREAMING! And boutique intimate encounters with artists.
