An Interview With Mathew Gold

Mathew Gold Releases Self-titled Album

Mathew Gold’s smooth and dreamy vocal has been riding high on the South African airwaves over the past 4 years through a number of powerful hit collaborations. Starting off with SAMA record of the year nominated “Taking It Easy” with Goodluck in 2011 to the most recent smash hit “When We Were Young” with Breadklaw, Mathew Gold is no stranger to the limelight.

He released his self-titled album a while ago, and I caught up with Mathew to ask a few questions about the new album.

Congratulations on releasing your new album; Tell us about it – What’s it about and what was the process of putting it all together like?

This is finally music that truly represents who I am and what I stand for. The process was slow and took more than 3 years, but I could not be more pleased with the outcome.

Oh wow that’s great – So, who worked with you on the album and where was it recorded?

I worked with numerous producers on this album, including Shen FM, Lastee & tellerman, Sketchy Bongo and US producer Alyx Ander. I know for a fact that I stepped into more than 25 different studios across the country.

That’s awesome! Which track is your personal favourite?

I Stood Still, its the last song on the album and it almost never made the deadline. Produced and co written with Shen FM.

You also released a music video for your single Magnetic Field. Tell us about the video production, and what the song is about?

I wrote the song without music in fact. I wasn’t sure what would become of this poem but it means a lot to me and I can tell that many people can relate to my stories. Christian Wolf (Director) and his team did such an amazing job. It took 2 days to build the set and I have so much love for everyone involved.

Tell us about your live performances, what can we expect when going to a show?

Its electronic, high energy blend of my current hits but I also take you back sonically to where it all started for Mathew Gold.

So, where can we catch your next live performance?

28th June Cafe Roux (Acoustic Performance).

Are you planning a tour soon?

The tour will be a summer club tour. Focusing on the Deep house and electronic element to Mathew Gold.

Lastly, where can we order the new album?

Its out now on iTunes & Apple Music or you can go down to your local Musica.

Thanks for the chat!
