An interview with Jow Feldtmann
Three SAMA nominations, Numerous national tours, radio play, headlining the country’s biggest festivals and sharing international stages with the likes of Korn, Deftones, The Prodigy and Marilyn Manson in Europe, The Narrow returns to fans this August with a rare offering: Multiverse The Narrow.
After 17 years, the band is giving fans the opportunity to become a part of their history. Performing with an unprecedented lineup and various special guests on the night, the band will present an exceptional production to thank fans for their support over the years.
I caught up with Jow Feldtmann, The Narrow’s bassist, to chat about the event and what they have been up to:
This year, The Narrow is celebrating 17 years together! Do you have a personal highlight through all those amazing years?
Trips overseas are usually seen as the biggest accomplishments, but I think to have been able to do 13 OppiKoppi shows, and coming face-to-face with Thrashers’ Saharan heat while the youngsters mosh it out, are definitely be the top memories.
Wow, 13! That’s amazing. So, what are you currently working on with The Narrow, except for the upcoming The Narrow Multiverse?
Nothing at the moment (which usually ends up in a lot of creativity sparking for new ideas). The three of us in Multiverse are basically keeping the motor running with this new angle, while we take a break from the usual The Narrow.
For those who don’t know, what exactly is Multiverse The Narrow?
Multiverse The Narrow is about music that inspires us. All the songs we loved listening to and bands as well. From the grunge we listened to in high school to metal from Kill Switch.
How did you guys choose the rest of the artists for this event?
They are gents we have shared a stage with. Love working with guys loving the same music.
So, when and where do you rehearse for the show? And is it difficult to get everyone together?
It’s always difficult to get girls around the same table… ooh wait, what!? Just to do the photoshoot there leave had to be taken and we could only work for two hours. The rehearsals were scheduled long in advance to assist with this.
In your words, what do you think will be the highlight of this show?
I think to see people sharing the enthusiasm for the music we love.
Can you share a few of the songs on the setlist?
Foofighters, Muse, Korn, Killswitch Engage. And the rest is a secret!
Lastly, what’s in store for you and The Narrow for the rest of the year?
The Narrow is focussing on this show for now. There has been some talk to take it to other cities. That would be great. And for myself, I am working on a project with a couple of guys called Local Lords, and then also with Jason Oosthuizen, I am the bassist in his ACDC Deep Purple tribute show.
Awesome! Thanks for your time and all the best for the show!
Thank you for your time, we appreciate it!
